Registration is closed

Join us at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens on July 7th between 11:00am and 3:00pm for our first Tanabata Star Festival event! Celebrate by making tanzaku wishes and tying them to our wish trees. Enjoy Japanese snacks, yukata dress-up, origami, and other activities.

Tanabata, Japan’s “star festival,”celebrates the story of Princess Orihime and her love, Hikoboshi, represented by the stars Vega and Altair. Due to their overwhelming love for each other, they neglected their work. As punishment, the princess’s father allowed them to see each other only for one day a year on the seventh day of the seventh month. Tanabata celebrates the day they are reunited! We'll celebrate with wish trees, star-inspired crafts and activities, and walks through the beautiful Japanese Gardens at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. It is sure to be great fun for the whole family!
