Join us at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens on July 2nd and July 3rd between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm for Tanabata Festival! Make wishes on Tanzaku and hang them on bamboo trees, and make origami decorations. Enjoy delicious cold Matcha and tea snacks by Urasenke Birmingham Association (only on July 3rd)!

Tanabata (Star Festival) is a Japanese festival that takes place on July 7th. According to a Chinese legend, the two stars Altair (Hikoboshi) and Vega (Orihime), which are usually separated from each other by the milky way, are able to meet on the 7th day of the 7th month of the year.

Maebashi-City and Japan-America Society of Alabama will be celebrating this special day by displaying Tanzaku (small pieces of paper with wishes on) at the Japanese Garden at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens from July 1st to July 10th, and also recognizing the Sister City anniversary (July 3rd) between Maebashi-City and Birmingham!
